Hugo Karlis Grotuss (1884-1951)
Very popular floral, architectural and landscape painter of the 1920th and 1930th. A realist with a predisposition to a decorative stylization, especially in landscapes.
Hugo Grotuss born on 17 January 1884 in Jaunpils.
Professional education has acquired in studio of Julian Medernieks and in Stiglitz's technical drawing school in St. Petersburg.
He worked as a drawing teacher at the St. Petersburg school. He was director of Suvalovas - Ozerku gymnasium. In Latvia Hugo Grotuss returned on 1920.
He has been a member of Independent Artists union, also board member. Participated in the exhibitions of this group (1921 - 1934). He was working as a teacher in Rigas' 25th primary school.
Commemorative exhibition held in 1984.
He died on January 16, 1951, in Dillingen, Germany.
