Kostroma. Tartars village. According to the documents of the Discharge Order, the Kostroma Tatar free settlement of Kostroma, which was located on the very bank of the Volga near the Chernaya River, was founded in 1680. By royal decree, 208 people were resettled here from the Romanovsky district of the Yaroslavl province, because “they were not baptized into the Orthodox faith.”
