Historically, Allaži cumin originated 200 years ago in the Allaži manor in 1823, the owner of which and the keeper of the recipe was Wilhelm von Blankenhagen. It quickly became famous in Europe and by the end of the 19th century it was already being produced by factories both in Riga and elsewhere in Latvia.
